Foreo Luna and the New Night Cleanser Celestial Melting Gel - A Dry Skin Quencher

If you own a Foreo Luna you no doubt adore it. The sonic cleanser and topical skincare infusion device has won a legion of fans since its launch in 2013, and scooped up a heap of awards.

Foreo recently introduced a range of cleansers for use with the Luna, of which this Night Cleanser Celestial Melting Gel is one. You can of course use any brand of suitable cleanser with the Luna, as you can with any sonic device. We all undoubtedly have our favourites, but I’ve been particularly impressed with how hydrated this Foreo formula leaves my skin.

I’m late to the game with the Luna. I have been using a Clarisonic for years and when you’ve forked out over £100 for something there’s a lot to consider before investing in an alternative – though five replacement Clarisonic brush heads cost about the equivalent of a Luna Mini and Foreo’s devices require no replacement parts.

The Luna has a soft brush surface at the top of one side. It’s made of silicone and combined with the sonic action it very gently lifts dirt and grime from the skin. It feels more gentle than my Clarisonic (I use a normal/regular brush head) and the topical infusion mode on the reverse is a bonus you don’t get with the Clarisonic.

But the real star of the Luna/Night Cleanser combo for me is the skincare. Rarely do cleansers leave my skin feeling so soft and supple. Tingly fresh and clean, yes, and while that’s primarily what I want from a cleanser I do always feel the need to pop a moisturiser on over the top almost immediately after cleansing.

For comparison I teamed the Foreo Night Cleanser Celestial Melting Gel with my Clarisonic and I also tried it on my face without a sonic device. There’s definitely a benefit from using it with a machine as they are more efficient at getting the ingredients to work on the skin.

The cleanser is grey in colour with small black particles (see swatch above). It contains meteorite powder (hence ‘Celestial’ in the name and perhaps explaining the black dots). Meteorite dust is an excellent exfoliator as it does the job without being harsh and gritty.

The consistency of the cleanser is thick and viscous. It goes on a little how I would imagine golden syrup would were you to smear it on your face. I didn't particularly like the sensation when I first applied it but bare with it. The results are worth the effort.

As soon as you start massaging your face (wet the Luna first) the cleanser melts into a cream. After the Luna’s one minute programme ends splash your face with water and pat dry. It was at this point that I notice how incredibly supple my skin was.

For dry and dehydrated complexions this is an excellent cleanser, though those with oilier skins might find it a little heavy. Foreo’s Night Cleanser Celestial Melting Gel costs £30 for 100ml and is available now here. The Foreo Luna costs £145 and is available from retailers including Boots here. More on Foreo here.
