Beauty Buzz: From Future 50 Beauty Awards to New Face of Rodial Make-Up

My pick of the week’s beauty stories from around the web…

The Future 50 Beauty Awards

Yesterday Women’s Health magazine held the inaugural Future 50 Beauty Awards, created to recognise and celebrate the most innovative beauty launches of the last 18 months. I was pleased to read that a number of my favourite brands picked up trophies. Winners included Clarisonic Aria - Beauty Gadget; La Roche Posay, Effaclar Duo - Innovation; Neal's Yard Remedies Holistic Facial - Anti-Ageing Facial; Aveda, Invati Scalp Detox Treatment - Specialist Hair Treatment; By Terry, Bleu Paradis - Prestige Fragrance; and Aromatherapy Associates, Renewing Rose Hand Cream - Hand Cream. A full list of winners can be found on the magazine’s Twitter feed @UKWomensHealth here.

Urban Decay Launches Naked Vault

‘We die’ was Allure mag’s reaction to this piece of news: Urban Decay set to launch The Naked Vault. An ultimate collector's set, The Naked Vault includes 12 of the brand’s most coveted Naked products: all 3 of the Naked palettes; 3 shades of the Flushed Palette including the award-winning Streak; 3 shades of lip gloss; and 3 of the brand's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. Allure describes the set as a “no make-up, make-up girl’s dream come true”. I can’t argue with that but at $280 it’s very much out of my price range. The set will be arriving exclusively at Selfridges soon and you can pre-order here. But you may want to hurry as it's already sold out at Sephora here!

Babylights – The Hottest New Hair Colour Trend

Ombre has had its day, according to InStyle, which reports that the hottest look this season for hair is Babylights.  These natural-looking highlights mimic the sun-kissed tones our hair took on as a child, and have been gaining popularity among both beauty buffs and Hollywood starlets, says InStyle. The hair look to strive for is Miranda Kerr’s, as pictured above. You can read more here.

Don’t Buy Nail Polish - Rent It!

Now, this is novel. Cosmo ran a piece this week on the launch of the first ever rental service for nail polish. Yes, truly! The Coloristiq service works something like this: 3 nail polishes are sent to subscribers every month, with free returns. The returned polishes are then inspected and sanitised ready for sending out to another subscriber. Nail brands on offer include  OPI and Essie. Cosmo describes it as a LoveFilm-style service, though it is not totally convinced it’ll catch on.  I have to agree. At £14.49 month, it’s pricey and you’re also restricted to 9 paints a month (3 per bottle).  Read Cosmo’s story here.

Daisy Lowe Named as the Face of Rodial’s New Sculpting Make-up Range

This was reported fairly widely this week, including this piece in the London Evening Standard here . Rodial founder Maria Hatzistefanis describes Daisy as the perfect brand ambassador: "What Daisy can bring to the Rodial brand is a modern, cool and quintessentially British edge." The new sculpting range, which includes the Instaglam make-up pictured above right, can be found here.
