Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque – Nourishment for Lacklustre Skin

I confess Dermalogica is not a brand I am that familiar with or have used much. I don’t honestly know why that is, as they take a ‘skin health’ approach to skincare - a stance that chimes enormously with me. I guess the label has just never really cropped up on my radar.

Well, that may be, but a few weeks ago I was contacted on behalf of Pure Beauty, an authorised UK Dermalogica stockist, and invited to sample a product from the Dermalogica range. Needless to say, I’m now much more au-fait with this US brand, created in 1986 by skin therapist Jane Wurwand, who interestingly trained in the UK.

Choosing just one product from the line-up was quite a task, but the range is helpfully divided into different treatment systems. For example, there’s UltraCalming for sensitized skin, Clear Start for teen, MediBac for adult acne and Age Smart for, well, I’m sure that one speaks for itself.

As someone with dry and occasionally (though less so recently) dehydrated skin, I was keen to pick something from the Age Smart range. I settled on a mask, the Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque. I liked the heavyweight sound of this formula, if nothing else!

The mask is designed to nourish dry, lacklustre skin and improve elasticity. It contains topical forms of vitamins A, C, E and F.

Vitamin F is not something I see that often in my skincare. It denotes essential fatty acids that cannot be produced by the body, and which have emollient, water-binding, and often antioxidant properties.

Key ingredients:

Vitamin A – helps increase elasticity and moisture content
Pro-Vitamin B – nourishes damaged skin
Vitamins C and E - help shield skin from free radicals
Algae Extractmoisturises and softens skin
Licorice, Comfrey and Burdock - soothe, calm and help decrease sensitivity

Application Technique:

You apply generously to cleansed face and throat, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with warm water. Use once a week, or whenever skin needs some extra TLC. I used this twice in one week to see how my skin would react – and cope!

Any good?

This is a rich, thick creamy mask. It’s orange in colour, more so than it looks in the swatched pic above. It feels really quite tingling on the skin, but not to the point of being unpleasant. I found the sensation strangely reassuring – something must be happening, right?!

After removing the mask my skin certainly felt more hydrated, even after one application. It was softer and more bouncy when I lightly tapped it with my index finger.

Also, whatever was causing the tingling it wasn’t anything irritating, as my skin wasn’t in the slightest bit red after I removed the mask – that is always a fear when using something for the first time.

I rate this mask, a good choice for those with dry, dehydrated and more mature skin. The Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque costs £32.65 for 75ml here.
