Sitting in a café with a very large latte (or two!) and a newspaper is something I have always tried to make time for. I relish solitary moments like this, in which to enjoy a favourite drink and catch up on what’s been happening in the world.
These days, having swapped the manic London job for motherhood and home working, the reading material tends to be lifestyle magazines and blogs read on my tablet. Luckily, most days I still get time to snatch a half-hour or so in Nero, to indulge myself in a grande and other writers’ stories.
There’s always something thought-provoking to read and share. By share I mean 21st century sharing, ie re-posting across my Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest pages. It’s never really occurred to me to do a round-up post of my favourite stories on the blog too. Until now!
So, welcome to Friday Beauty Buzz, a précis of my favourite media stories from this week. Perhaps this will become a semi-regular feature, who knows?
Style.com – Milan Fashion Week Spring 2015 Trends
The fashion press has been filled with glorious images from Milan Fashion Week. The runway display that really caught my eye was Dolce & Gabbana’s Spanish-influenced affair. Reporting from it, Style.com spoke of “cropped bolero jackets, braided detailing, and bedazzled denim inspired by Spain’s rule over Sicily between 1516 and 1713”, as well as “rich red roses and ruffled carnations to lend some Spanish flair to soft chignons”. Fantástico! Read more here.
Harper’s Bazaar – Win £3000 Worth of Top Beauty Products
If you’re broke and can’t afford to buy any beauty this month (actually, even if you’re not and you can!), you may just want to head over to Harper’s Bazaar website. There you’ll find a fantastic competition to win the magazine’s edit of the “very best in beauty”, worth a whopping £3,000! Up for grabs is every single product mentioned within Harper’s Bazaar Beauty Awards Supplement (free with its October issue), including Dior’s Hydralife Awakening Mask, Josh Wood’s Colour Blending Wands and Chanel's Rouge Allure lipgloss. Closing date is 22nd October. Find out more here.
Cosmopolitan – Perfect Brows in 3 Easy Steps
If you covet the bushy eyebrow look a la Cara Delevingne, but years of over plucking have meant you’re struggling to get anywhere near, don’t panic. Cosmopolitan has teamed with Lancôme makeup artist Sandy Linter to produce a helpful online tutorial, showing how to get perfect brows in just three steps - even while growing them out. You can find it here.
Harper's Bazaar - 25 Inspiring Women Who Changed the Face of Feminism

Back to Harper’s Bazaar for my final story. I couldn’t finish without mentioning Emma Watson’s moving speech as she launched the UN’s new gender equality initiative, HeForShe. It got acres of media coverage, and rightly so. To celebrate feminism, and in honour of Watson’s speech, Harper’s Bazaar has compiled a list of’25 inspiring women who changed the face of feminism’. Emma is featured, of course. You can read the full list here.
That’s it for my round-up. What stories have interested you this week? You can check out my social pages here - Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest.
