Welcome to the new-look Face Up Beauty

Today I’m unveiling a re-design of my blog. We all need a bit of a re-boot from time-to-time, including websites, and it is something I have been meaning to do for a while.

Foreo Luna Mini 2 (Review) and Luna Play (Preview)

Cleansing On-The-Go Just Got Better…

I have a soft spot for dinky gadgets. It’s not only their cuteness that appeals but their compactness means that they slip inside my suitcase for travel without any bother, ie they don’t take up masses of precious space (I’m hopeless at packing light).

Whenever I’m away from home for more than two nights, I hate to be without at least a couple of beauty gadgets. My precious bundle will always include a cleansing device of some sort – thorough cleansing is the bedrock of every good skincare regime, right?

Prince: 1958-2016

I wrote the next post before news emerged of the tragic and untimely death of Prince.

Never before have I been so emotionally rocked by the loss of someone who I've never met but whose music has partially shaped the person I am, being such a presence throughout my teens, twenties and beyond.

Talking about skincare and makeup today seems trivial, somehow. Yet here I am posting - life does go on.

To Prince fans everywhere, let us continue to love and embrace his music - a rich legacy that reflects the huge talent that he was.

nűgg Beauty – Single Use Masks For Every Skin Emergency Going!

We were brought up to identify our skin with one of (roughly) four different types: normal, dry, combination or oily. But as we now know life (or should I say skin) is not that simple.

Our skin changes: one moment it can be dry, the next oily. Or perhaps it suddenly develops sensitivity (yes, even the categorisation is crude). The condition of our skin is affected by many things, not least diet, sleep, age, hormonal levels and even the weather.

It’s the ever changing nature of skin that makes single use face masks such a good idea. Rather than buying, say, a hydrating mask in a large tube, you can buy a whole selection of single mask sachets or pots for treating a variety of different skin issues.

10 Steps to Naturally Radiant and Younger Looking Skin

When skincare is an all-consuming passion, it’s easy to become blinkered in our thinking on skin health.

Undoubtedly the creams we put on our faces make a massive impact on the health of our skin. No matter how cynical we are, there simply wouldn’t be a vibrant skincare industry if that wasn’t the case.

But equally, topical solutions are just a part of the answer. Other factors are at play when it comes to skin health, including diet, exercise and even our thought processes. A few weeks ago I sat down to discuss this very matter with nutritionist and detox expert Zoe Palmer-Wright, who was meeting journalists at a Solgar-hosted event to celebrate the re-branding of their beauty supplements (more on that coming up).

Face Up Fitness: Protein Shakes – What’s All The Fuss?

Protein shakes have become as ubiquitous at the gym as dumbbells and medicine balls. If you don’t see tubs of the stuff stacked high on shelves behind the reception desk, you’ll find a whole range of ready-to-drink ones on sale in vending machines next to the weights room.

If you’re a gym regular, you will almost certainly have seen members (men and women alike) walking around with shake bottle in hand, guzzling the contents before or after their workout.

March Empties – And Favourites

March represents my tallest empties post to date. I mean that in the literal sense – I have two very lofty empty cans in my latest stash of used-ups.

NEW: Balance Me Instant Lift Pore Minimiser – Another Multi-tasker

Hot on the heels of its tinted eye cream/primer, Balance Me has launched a second skin prepping and complexion boosting formula.

Instant Lift Pore Minimiser is a primer-come-line-smoother, made with a blend of botanical oils (rosehip, frankincense and bergamot) that’ll be familiar to those who have grown to love Balance Me’s natural formulations (yes, I’m one).

The Margaret Dabbs Experience – Medical Pedicure and Supreme Manicure

Looking after my feet usually involves clipping my nails when I feel them poking against my shoes (sorry, that’s a horrible image). I also go a bit crazy with a pumice to remove dead skin whenever I take a bath (most evenings), and I slap on foot cream whenever I remember to (which is rarely).

It’s fair to say that I’m pretty bad at caring for my feet  I’m a little better at looking after my hands, but only just – I do remember to use hand cream a few times a day. As far as regular professional manicure and pedicures go, I could count the number I’ve had on one hand (OK, perhaps two).
