NEW: Clarins Extra-Firming Mask – My Skin's Early Morning Wake-Up Call!

The first thing that struck me about the new Clarins Extra-Firming Mask was the colour – it’s mauve. I have masks in all manner of colours but I do believe this is my first mauve one.

While aesthetically attractive, there is purpose behind the colour: mauve is recognised in chromotherapy for its relaxing benefits. And that is one of the key principles behind this mask: it’s designed to relieve tension and signs of fatigue, to reverse the chaos that today’s modern lifestyles reap on our skin!

The mask comes in a wide-necked glass pot, which makes it easy to scoop up. It’s got a very thick creamy texture and feels cooling on the skin – I use my fingertips for applying but a spatula is provided.

Key Ingredients

Palmitoyl glycine – smoothing
Organic green banana and lemon thyme – firming
Hyaluronic acid – plumping

The product is said to melt on contact with the skin, delivering a feeling of freshness and comfort. I’d agree 100% with that. It’s also said to lift, firm and boost radiance. I’m definitely seeing the radiance and firming, though I’ve yet to find any topical formula that truly lifts.

Use morning/night or whenever the face is showing signs of fatigue.  You can leave-on or wash-off. I prefer to do the former as the ingredients seem to work for longer (or is that psychological because they are left on?)

If you really want to go to town with application you can use Clarins’ ‘pressure point’ method, which is explained in diagram form inside the product box but essentially involves using the pads of the fingers to apply pressure to various parts of the face. It is designed to help relieve those stress lines even further.

I’m really benefiting from using this mask in the morning, as my face is starting to feel a bit ‘meh!’ first thing. I smooth it on and after 10 minutes or so my skin feels a lot softer and more hydrated.  I can’t say I’m looking any younger: for me the key pros here are all about the ‘feel’ – soft skin, refreshed skin and skin that’s ready to take on the day!

The Clarins Extra-Firming Mask costs £46 for 75ml and can be bought here.
