New Exclusive Space NK Brands Break The Mould – Reviews

Whoa! Space NK has just welcomed the above new and exclusive mould breaking brands in to its product portfolio. I got a preview of the complete line-up last week and have since sampled some of the products. Here’s the low down:

R+Co Haircare

An incredibly striking new line of luxury haircare products, brought to us by a collective of top hairstylists: Howard McLaren (former artistic director Bumble&Bumble), and celebrated Manhattan stylists Thom Priano and Garren.

These stylist-centric formulas - even the shampoo and conditioners are considered styling products -  comprise 23 products including 5 sets of shampoos/conditioners, 3 creams, 2 waxes, 2 mousses, 2 aerosols, 3 sprays and 1 oil. The packaging, scents and product names are fabulous and all take equal billing here. Take the Death Valley Dry Shampoo – a clever name, stunning location photography on the tin and a gorgeous smell inside it (thank goodness - so many dry shampoos smell vile!).

The line is free of parabens, sulphates, gluten and petroleum, and also offers UV protection. Pricing TBC but per product expected to be in the region of £20-30. The range will be available from 2 June. More info here.

R+Co Bel Air Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner - Review

These are rich and creamy formulas, with the shampoo also having a lovely pearly shimmer running through it. The fragrance is cheeky and fruity, and of a quality that means you can still smell it once hair is dry (the collective collaborated with top perfumers). With key ingredients including hibiscus extract and rice extract to soften, smooth and add shine, I was hopeful this duo would tame my thick, frizz prone mane. It didn’t disappoint.

Sam Farmer –   “Bodywashing not Brainwashing”

A unisex personal care range for adolescents, created to offer an alternative to the current fare of gender stereotyping products – case in point, my 13 year-old son’s Lynx deodorant is in a macho gun metal grey can and called ‘Attract’!

The Sam Farmer range features simple, no-nonsense packaging and pared back formulas designed to gently but effectively clean and soothe young skin. There are 6 products in total: a shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, facewash, moisturiser and deodorant. Prices start at £4 for the deodorant, and go up to £8 for the facewash - fab price points in my view! You can buy the range now here, and in selected stores from June.

Sam Farmer Deodorant - Review

A roll-on with a delicate citrus smell. It feels instantly cooling on the skin and dries quickly without leaving any nasty sticky residue. Fresh, simple and very pleasant. My son’s thoughts: “Yeah it’s nice” – I did say he was 13 didn’t I!

Nudestix

A touch ‘n’ go makeup collection inspired by sisters and aspiring models Ally & Taylor Frankel, who are also the daughters of company founder and beauty industry veteran Jenny Frankel. Nudestix are 28 crayons for skin, eyes, lips and cheeks and all are nudes with just a hint of colour – “we’re all born with our own unique look, so why cover it up with tons of makeup?” say the sisters.

There are skincare ingredients here too, including vitamins, anti-oxidants and hydratants. The mascara crayon also contains eyelash growing peptides. The products cost £24 each and come with their own carrying tin and sharpener. Available to pre-order now here with stock expected 22 May.

Nudestix Concealer Stix (Light 2) - Review

I’m an avid user of By Terry’s Touch-Expert Advanced, a brush applied liquid concealer. However, I’m always up for trying something new. The crayon was easy to apply and the colour match perfect, but I found the texture too dry for my skin. As an under eye concealer this didn’t work for me but as a blemish spot cover up it did just the job.

Nudestix Update: Nudestix founder Jenny Frankel kindly left me a comment (see below), suggesting that I try putting a moisturiser underneath the concealer as I have dry skin. I gave it go (I used an eye cream) and it worked - the concealer crayon was much easier to apply. You may want to try the same if you too have skin that is on the dry side.
