When Life Gets in the Way of Blogging…

Does life ever feel like a constant game of ‘chase the tail’? No matter how organised you are, or how well you plan your time, you always seem to end up with more tasks on your to-do list at the end of the day than at the start?

How is that? Where did the day go wrong?

I wish I had the answers. I feel that I have been travelling at the speed of a bullet train these last few weeks.  On top of normal life, there’s been last minute Christmas presents to buy, dozens more to wrap, festive food to order and collect, and visits to family and long-time friends to make – friends I rarely see at other times of the year because they live miles away (I feel guilty admitting to that).

Then there’s blogging. Oh goodness! When I am going to find the time to write my blog? I love blogging. I wouldn’t give it up for anything but it’s bothered me that I haven’t been able to post as frequently as usual these past few weeks.

I’m not alone in all of this, of course. Christmas and New Year is a busy time of year for everyone. I’m sure we’ve all felt stress levels rising, and the need to take a break from our blogs. We should never feel regret about that, although I know many of us do.

It’s OK to take a breather. In fact it’s good. We’ve all at some point chosen to work through our lunch breaks, rather than pop outside in the fresh air for an hour. Come the end of the day we know we made the wrong decision, and that our minds would have been more alert and more productive had we chosen the other option.

As I sit at my desk writing this, I’m formulating a five-point action plan for tackling stress when life starts to get a bit out of hand:

1)    Pour a large glass of Sauvignon and sit in front the TV with iPlayer on tap
2)    Grab an unread classic novel from the bookshelf and lose yourself in virgin words
3)    Take  a  long soak in a steaming hot bath filled with rose otto or other favourite oil
4)    Invite a friend down to the pub or for coffee
5)    Take off to the gym and pound some serious weights for an hour

Which option would you take? Or perhaps you’ve got some better alternatives?
