Murad Bolsters Skin Protection With MuraSol And Sun Balm Stick – Previews Pore Reform Product Launching July

Not wearing a sunscreen daily is one of the worst things people can do when it comes to skincare since incidental UV exposure can happen even when you’re not directly in the sun.

I quote Dr Howard Murad, board certified dermatologist and founder of the Murad skincare brand. This advice we’d all do well to heed, and for the last 5 years or so wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30 has been an essential part of my daily skincare regime.

When we sit in the sun, our skin absorbs ultraviolet radiation (skin ageing UVA and skin burning UVB rays) that can cause instability in the molecules of the body tissue, releasing harmful compounds called free radicals. These free radicals can damage cell function and cause premature ageing.

So when Jeff Murad (Howard’s son and Murad VP of product development) explained at a bloggers media event in London last week that no product is able to block more than 98% of UV rays, I got a bit worried – momentarily! For Murad has come up with a clever solution. It’s called MuraSol.

MuraSol is a proprietary blend of antioxidants that penetrate the skin’s top layers to create a protective barrier of encapsulated free radical neutralisers. These neutralisers release slowly over time, helping protect skin from free radical damage, providing skin with a further defence against harmful UV rays .

MuraSol has now been added to Murad’s range of sunscreen products, including the Oil-Free Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 product pictured above. It is also at the heart of a new portable sun stick unveiled at last week’s event, The Murad Essential-C Sun Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 35 (PA +++).

Other ingredients in the balm include:
- broccoli extract to stimulate skin’s natural defence against UV damage
- tangerine butter to lock in moisture
- antioxidant vitamins A, C and E

I have had a play around with the sun stick, and it does have a lovely light non greasy texture and leaves skin feeling smooth (you may just about be able to detect the sheen on my hand above). The Murad Essential-C Sun Balm costs £19.50 and can be bought here.

In other news at last week’s bloggers event, Murad gave a sneak peak of Blackhead & Pore Clearing Duo, which will launch in July as the superstar product within the Pore Reform range. This two-step treatment comprises a volcanic mineral clay mask for extracting dirt and excess oil, and a pore refining complex containing pomegranate seed oil.
