Friday Beauty Buzz: From Halloween Make-Up Looks To Loving Our Lines

My pick of the week’s beauty stories…

Halloween Lip Make-up Ideas

Halloween! Yes, it’s looming. And if you’re planning to go trick or treating at the end of the month, why not experiment with your make-up and brushes to create some ‘spooky’ beauty looks to go with your outfit. The Bored Panda blog this week featured some incredible Halloween-themed make-up art for lips, by the Spanish make-up artist and photographer Eva Senín Pernas. They include the two creations below. Scary spiders and witches on broomsticks are among the other lip looks featured.

The Best Celebrity Halloween Costumes Through The Years

If it’s more costume ideas you’re after then how about this for inspiration - ‘The best celebrity Halloween costumes through the years’. It’s a click through post put together for Marie Claire by the editors of sister publication Elle, featuring 123 pics (yes 123, though I didn’t click through them all to count) of different celebs dolled up in freaky garb. There’s Kate Moss and Jamie Hince dressed as the undead in Spanish Flamenco attire (lead pic), and a very blue looking Rhianna in a Zombie gangster get-up (below). More here.

Love Your Lines

I’m delighted to see a growing backlash against the widespread use of air-brushed and photo-shopped images of women in brand advertising and magazine features. Cosmopolitan has recently run a number of posts featuring ‘real’ women. This week its Facebook page flagged up an August story featuring the ‘Love Your Lines’ Instagram account, which showcases user-submitted black and white photos of women’s stretch marks. Bravo! The Cosmo post got quite a few likes when I shared it on my Facebook page this week. Now, as much as I applaud Cosmo for spreading the message, I do wonder if it refrains from using airbrushed images entirely across its editorial portfolio?

Korean Beauty Facial Massage

If you’re a bit of a skincare geek then you’ll know that Korean women follow a meticulous 10-step skincare routine nightly – perhaps you do it yourself even? South Korea knows a thing or two about beauty – it’s where most beauty innovation takes place these days – so anything that trends there is definitely worth a look. Step forward Korean facial massage. I’m a firm believer in facial massage as a way of tightening and toning skin (facial exercise and loving our lines are not mutually exclusive - we can love both!), so this 8-step GIF tutorial by Marie Claire showing you how to do it the Korean way is intriguing. You can find it here.
