The 2014 Body Confidence Awards - *Winners Update*

For every magazine article I read celebrating women of all shapes, sizes and looks, I spot dozens more featuring pictures of airbrushed models and celebrities, and other images of unrealistic beauty. No wonder low body confidence is a widespread problem!

Tonight in London, though, the spotlight will shine brightly on diversity and positive body image.
The 2014 Body Confidence Awards are taking place at the House of Commons and will recognise and celebrate those who are leading the way in promoting body confidence through education, health, media and advertising.

Selfridges – The Beauty Project, and Lancôme & Lupita Nyong’o, are both shortlisted for the Responsible Beauty Award.  Cosmopolitan and Guardian Body Image, meanwhile, are shortlisted for the Responsible Media & Advertising gong.  Presenters at tonight’s event include Jameela Jamil (pictured), Gok Wan and paralympian Stef Reid.

The awards are taking place during Body Confidence Week (which is happening now), and form part of ‘Be Real’, a campaign to change attitudes to body image.  The campaign was founded in partnership with Dove and is sponsored by brands including bareMinerals, Debenhams, New Look and Superdrug.  We can all support #BeReal.
