Charity Beauty – Raising Money for Good Causes

What tempts you to buy new beauty products? Is it a mega sale, a deluxe ‘gift with purchase’ goodie bag, a need to replace a favourite product – or a charity donation?

I pondered this question after reading about the launch of Chantecaille’ Spring/Summer 2015 make-up collection last week. It’s a gorgeous line-up of eye shadow palettes, lipsticks and lip glosses, all inspired by Artic landscapes. Proceeds from the range will go towards fighting global warming.

A few days later The Body Shop announced it will be supporting War Child this Christmas, donating a percentage of sales from selected Christmas products. Elsewhere recently, Sisley has announced a fund raising collaboration with the charity Kisany Living Linens, Penhaligon is sponsoring Movember again, and L’Occitane has launched the Solidarity Soap in support of World Sight Day.

Brands have, of course, been supporting charities for years and I commend those that do – charities are struggling to raise cash. But there have been quite a number of charity beauty launches recently.

This got me thinking. What impact is this having on me? I can’t deny that I get lured in by a good sale and a free bulging goodie bag. But supporting charity is important too, and with all the recent launches there’s no excuse not to do it!

Here’s a round-up of charity beauty products available now (or coming soon):

The Body Shop –  War Child

Selected 2014 Christmas gifts include a donation to War Child – each gift will fund one child to attend a school class.  They include The Winter Wonderful Music Box pictured above (£35), as well as Glazed Apple Tin Of Treasures (£17) and Schoolbooks of Wishes (£35).  The full list of Body Shop’s charity gifts can be found here.

Chantecaille – National Resources Defense Council

The centrepiece of Chantecaille’s upcoming Artic landscape-inspired collection is this Glacier Eye Shadow Trio above, with its glorious iceberg embellishment. 5% of proceeds from the palettes will go to NRDC.  The neutral shades are Iceberg (white gold pearl), Polar Light (taupe) and Arctic Dusk (lilac grey).  Priced at £62, the palette will be available from next February. More on Chantecaille here.

Sisley –  Kisany Living Linens

Kisany Living Linens trains vulnerable women in East Africa in the traditional art of embroidery and weaving to create exclusive, bespoke products. As part of its latest collaboration with Sisley, the charity has created bags stitched with messages of Hope, Joy, Luck, Give and Love. Each hand stitched pouch contains a Sisley Supremÿa Yeux 30ml; Supremÿa At Night 2ml luxury sample, Black Rose Cream Mask 10ml tube and an All Day All Year 10ml tube.  The gift bag is priced at £175 and is available at Selfridges here.

Penhaligon - Movember

Here’s one for the boys! Penhaligon has been the official Movember sponsor for the past 5 years and this month sees it bring back its Moustache Wax to stores and online. The wax is lightly scented with Penhaligon’s Sartorial fragrance and costs £5, of which £2 will go to Movember, which supports men’s health charities. Buy the wax here.

L’Occitane – Non Governmental Organisation (NGOs)

Each year L’Occitane launches a solidarity product in support of efforts to fight against avoidable blindness. This year’s Solidarity Soap is lightly scented with apricot and enriched with 5% shea butter.100% of the profits raised from sales will finance eye-health projects run by NGOS in developing countries, with the continual support of the L'Occitane foundation. The soap costs £4.50 and can be bought here.
