Ce est la vie, je suppose! I am more than a little late with my favourite magazine freebie this month. Thank you tonsillitis – you rendered me incapable of moving beyond the confines of my bedroom, let alone my house, last week!
Consequently, the first opportunity I had to get to Smiths to check out the new magazine editions was last Monday. I was thinking of skipping this month’s post altogether but the Elemis freebie that comes with the latest Harper’s Bazaar is just too good not to mention.
Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is an Elemis skincare hero. The sample size here is worth a staggering £28! I know. That’s quite some value! I’ve often seen the freebies ripped (I should probably say ‘stolen’) from their front covers. Harper's Bazaar are obviously taking no chances this month – said product was stuck so firmly to its cover that I had to use scissors, followed by brute force, to extract it!
I did a very quick review of this cream in my January’s empties post here. A small sample came with one of my husband’s BA in-flight comfort bags, and he gave it to me. It was too small a sample to get a proper feel for the product. I said at the time that I was hoping I might get my hands on a bigger tube at some point – though I wasn’t expecting it to be quite this soon!
Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream – Review
Elemis says the trials saw apparent wrinkle depth reduce by up to 78% and hydration increase by up to 45%. Skin firmness and elasticity also dramatically increased, whilst providing better free radical protection.
That data aside, this Elemis cream has won countless awards and is adored by women the World over. Padina Pavonica is not that widely used in skincare, it seems. Apart from Elemis I found it exists in products by two other premium brands, Esthederm and Sisley (though I’m sure there are others beyond the first few pages of Google search that I quickly scanned).
So a little bit about Padina Pavonica. It’s a brown algae also known as Peacocks tail and is found in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Used in topical creams it is said to help strengthen skin tissue and also boost our body’s ability to produce its own hyaluronic acid, thereby firming skin and smoothing wrinkles.
It’s too early to say whether the cream has delivered on that for me – and these things are notoriously difficult to measure anyway. But what I can say is that this is a lovely rich formula and does give skin a quick boost of hydration, making skin feel instantly softer.
