Fave Freebies of the Month – Neal's Yard Remedies and Balance Me (Reviewed)

Choices, choices… It wasn’t as much the breadth of choice as the quality when it came to choosing one of the beauty products being bundled free with the lifestyle press this month.

In the one corner there was Instyle, with two Neal’s Yard Remedies body lotions to choose from, and in the other there was Marie Claire, with one of three Balance Me products. I couldn’t see much else covermounted on the October editions when I went looking on Thursday.

Hmm, decisions decisions. NYR and Balance Me are two of my favourite natural beauty brands - in the end I couldn’t choose between them and so decided to buy copies of both InStyle and Marie Claire! That just left the (rather big) decision of which products to get.

In the end I stumped for Neal’s Yard Remedies Bee Lovely body lotion, and Balance Me’s recently launched Restore and Replenish Cream Cleanser. I was very tempted to buy multiple copies of each magazine and scoop up multiple products – just like my dear pal Sandra at Beauty Balm is planning to do!

Neal’s Yard Remedies – Bee Lovely (100ml sample)

This is so silky that it simply glides on the skin. I first applied it after showering at the gym, and although my skin is always warmed then (so product tends to sink in easily), I can’t think of another body cream I’ve used that has had better slip on my legs.

The aroma is a treat for the senses too. I didn’t bother to look at the ingredients’ list before I tried this – I just presumed it would smell of honey (a smell I’m not terribly fond of). But the honey is here for the moisturising as this features the most uplifting citrus scent, a fragrant blend of mandarin and orange organic essential oils.

You can buy a full 295ml tube of Bee Lovely for £21.50 here and help save the bees at the same time - Neal’s Yard Remedies is donating £10,000 a year to ‘Bee Lovely Projects’.

Balance Me – Restore and Replenish Cream Cleanser (50ml sample)

I was kindly invited to the launch of this product back in May, and so got my hands on a tube early. What a treat! I declared it a triumph of a product in my review at the time, and I still feel the same way about it. It’s gentle on the skin, yet works like a trouper.

It removes all traces of make-up, even my stubborn Clarins Double Fix’ mascara (that’s stubborn in a good way as its purpose is to ‘fix’ mascara so it doesn’t budge, but there comes a point just before bedtime when you no longer want it to do that job!).

The scent here is glorious, a blend of neroli and frankincense essential oils, and magnolia leaf extract. It additionally contains softening butters rich in essential fatty acids, anti-oxidants and vitamins. My skin after I’ve cleansed with this feels super soft.

You can buy a full 125ml tube for £18 here.
