StriVectin-AR Advanced Retinol Day Treatment SPF 30 and Advanced Retinol Night Treatment - Review

It’s rare that I’ll slap on a new face cream and go ‘whoa!’. Face creams are generally something I use to rehydrate my skin, to put back some lost moisture and relieve any dryness.

But ‘whoa’ was precisely what I uttered when I first tried the StriVectin-AR Advanced Retinol Day Treatment SPF 30. My wrinkles didn’t all suddenly disappear or my complexion lose 10 years (no topical can do that).

I was simply taken aback by how radiant and healthy my skin looked immediately after I applied the cream. My skin looked and felt smooth (very smooth), and prepped ready for some make-up action – I don’t even need to use a primer with this day cream (an immediate money saver).

All this is an extremely welcome aside, as these StriVectin day (and night) treatments are hardcore skincare products, designed to work over time to reduce fine lines, even out the complexion and plump skin. They are not quick fix paste-overs.

There are two superstar anti-ageing ingredients at work in unison here - Retinol and Niacin.

What is Retinol?

Any skincare expert worth their salt will tell you to add Retinol into your skincare regime once you hit 30. It’s a potent form of vitamin A and is an extremely effective cell-communicating ingredient. It’s an anti-oxidant and can interrupt free-radical damage that causes skin to prematurely age, thus it can prevent wrinkling and increase collagen production.

What is Niacin?

Niacin is vitamin B3. It is sometimes used as a non irritating alternative to tretinoin, a prescription-only derivative of vitamin A. Here StriVectin is using its own propriety form of vitamin B, NIA-114, to unlock and maximise Retinol’s power without causing any irritating side-effects.

You’ll find NIA-114 across the entire StriVectin product ranges. It is one of the most active forms of vitamin B, according to the brand. It has the ability to absorb deeply into the skin and strengthen its moisture barrier. Pairing Retinol with NIA-114 ‘forms a dynamic duo’, it claims.

So, Are The Products Any Good?

StriVectin is very sound when it comes to anti-ageing skincare. I’m a long-time fan and have used many of their products – I can’t think of one I don’t like. So, I had high expectations for these two products and I’m not disappointed

The ingredients are fully on the mark – there’s a broad spectrum 30SPF in the day cream too (above). The creams feel rich, they go on beautifully and after several weeks of daily use (you apply over the entire face, concentrating on any problem areas) my skin is looking radiant and healthy (aside from some old pigmentation marks that I’m not sure I’m ever going to be able to shift).

If you’ve ever used StriVectin products you’ll be familiar with their scent. I find it difficult to describe what it’s like but it’s distinctive and it’s been there in every StriVectin product that I have ever bought. I find the smell reassuring – though I’m not sure why!
