Mother’s Day Sunday 30th March – Beauty And Other Luxe Gift Ideas

It was only when I became a mum myself did I start to fully appreciate everything my own mother had done for me as I was growing up. Not that I was ungrateful - quite the contrary. Only, I confess, I did take it for granted having a home cooked meal waiting for me on the dinner table every night and having freshly washed and ironed clothes always in my wardrobe. Then there was mum’s ‘taxi’ service always on call when I needed it, and not forgetting the ‘tidy-up’ fairy who would visit my room each night to pick up the Pippa dolls (remember those?) I had left carelessly scattered across my bedroom floor.

My mum never complained (still doesn’t when I phone her to have a moan about something or other!). I guess that’s unconditional love for you. Now that I’m a mum myself, and it’s me doing the above aforementioned ‘chores’, Mother’s Day has taken on a very special poignancy. With just over 3 weeks to go before the big day, here are my top suggestions for what to buy the World’s Best Mum this year.

M&S – Sparkling Rose Hamper

I have bought variations of this for my mum in the past. An old classic and she adores it every time. I think it’s hard to beat the combination of luxury chocs, bubbly and a plant. Available until 6th May for £40, the M&S Sparkling Rose Hamper can be purchased here and M&S is currently offering free nominated day delivery if you spend £20 or more on its hamper gifts.

Hotel Chocolat – Chocs and Hand Cream

Hotel Chocolat is a firm favourite in our household, but it seems a bit decadent buying it week in week out just for yourself. But give us any occasion (or a sale – they do fantastic ones) and we’re all there snapping it up, myself, my husband and my 9 year-old daughter (oddly, my son prefers Cadbury’s – can’t quite work that one out!!).

The other great thing about Hotel Chocolat is that they also sell their own branded beauty products. If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to the rose hamper, or if you want to include something in the beauty line, I think this box of Lovely Hearts Milk (also available in dark) teamed with Hotel Chocolat’s Cocoa Juvenate hand cream would delight any mum with both choc and beauty cravings. The £7.50 chocolates can be bought here and the 100ml £19 hand cream here.

This Works - Supersize Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

OK. You want something brand new? You got it. This Works have just brought out a supersize version of their much coveted Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, launched to coincide with National Sleep Awareness Week 2nd-9th March – “if you don’t sleep, everything suffers,” as This Works creative director Kathy Phillips kindly reminds us. This limited edition bottle combines therapeutic lavender, ‘oil of tranquillity’ vetivert and relaxing wild camomile to help get you to sleep. It is more than 3 times bigger than the standard sized bottle and features a limited edition delicate hand drawn camomile flower design by Alexandra Palmowski. It costs £30 for 250ml and can be bought at thisworks.com here and other This Works Stockists.

Perfect Pout – Lip Balms

I instantly fell head over heels for these lip balms when I first saw them at pre-launch earlier this year. Now available to buy, the Perfect Pout Lip Balm collection is another great Mother’s Day gift idea. They’re utterly cute and sparkly to look at and give an instant injection of 100% natural organic ingredients to soothe and moisturise lips.

Each lip balm is presented in a vintage inspired jewel encrusted case and packaged in a pretty organza gift bag. The cases include a mirror and are refillable via an optional service the company provides. There are 3 different flavours (strawberry, coconut and vanilla) and 7 designs to choose from (I think this Diamonds and Pearls pictured is classy). They cost £14 each and can be bought here.

So what shall I be buying my mum this year? I’m afraid I must keep mum, as she reads my blog!
