Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Serum + Eye Lift Mask – and a bit about Gwyneth Paltrow

Celebrity endorsements don’t get much better than this: Gwyneth Paltrow teams-up with Juice Beauty for long-term collaborations and becomes the brand’s creative director, make-up.

That announcement from earlier this year, plus the subsequent launch of Paltrow’s Goop by Juice Beauty, a well-received line of organic skincare products, resulted in acreages of media coverage that any brand would die for. The brand has been on my ‘must explore further’ list for some time!

So, Juice Beauty: an organic skincare brand with impeccable green credentials. Previously my only brush with Juice Beauty had been a sample of its Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser, which I ticked and added to my ‘to-buy’ list. Then a few weeks ago Naturisimo kindly invited me to try out some products from the Stem Cellular range. I chose these two: the Anti-Wrinkle Booster Serum and the Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask.

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Booster Serum

This is an ultra-light gel serum for boosting skin texture, tone and radiance. It contains a blend of organic fruit extracts and oils, and is also designed to prep the skin ready for day-time moisturiser (specifically the Stem Cellular Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser ).

Key Ingredients include:

Apple, grape, lemon and aloe juices, as well as jojoba, grape seed, sunflower and borage oils. Together these are rich in a heap of skin loving things like vitamin c, resveratrol, flavonoids, antioxidants and AHAs.

This has the most wondrous light texture and absorbs instantly, leaving my skin feeling hydrated without dryness (which can sometimes happen when products sink very quickly in to dry skin). It’s perfect for this time of year as it feels cooling and soothing.

I apply twice daily after cleansing and before oils and moisturiser/night cream. It comes in a lidless pump dispenser, which I really like as it means there’s no fiddly cap and should you drop it face down on a hard floor the pump can’t be accidentally depressed.

I really love this serum, and so does my skin! Juice Beauty Stem Cellular  Anti-Wrinkle Booster Serum costs £72 for 30ml here.

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask
Designed as a quick fix for tired-looking skin, this eye mask requires a two-step application. There’s the freeze-dried mask itself containing antioxidants and marine nutrients which sits in a plastic tray and a separate vial of fluid. You pour the fluid over the masks to activate the ingredients – the idea being that keeping them separate until needed gives the masks maximum potency.

Key ingredients:
-    cucumber, white tea, and arnica extracts to reduce puffiness
-    algae and aloe to hydrate and refresh
-    hyaluronic acid and chamomil to plump and improve suppleness

I found this a bit fiddly. At first the solution didn’t fully cover the mask so I had to pick the mask up and swirl it around in the liquid.  The mask also becomes quite thin and fragile when wet – I tore a little hole in it! On the plus side the slimness and wetness means that the mask is very comfortable to wear - it feels almost weightless on, unlike a lot of masks.

You apply to mask to the under eye area, with the widest section pointing outwards. Leave on for 10 minutes.
Before (L), Mask (M), After (R)
The skin around my eyes certainly looked more refreshed and less lined after the treatment but I would have expected that as the skin was still moist from the solution. However, with my skin being so dry the effects wore off very quickly. I think this is a texture issue, and those with oilier complexions would have a better outcome.

It’s a pity this didn’t really suit me as I love the list of ingredients, though at £72 for six sets this comes in at the pricey end of eye masks. You can buy them here.
